Based in central London’s fashionable Mayfair district , MWB Capital Ltd is a new “boy on the block”, specialising in private investment in a range of companies and industries.
It was founded in 2009 by Andrew Watkins-Ball (a former head of the European high-yield bond syndicate at Citigroup in London), along with Julian McIntyre, former founder and chief executive of Gateway Communications Group, an Africa-focused business and retail communications firm.
MWB says it is “prepared to take private equity investments for minority or controlling stakes, arrange private debt, management buy-ins and buy-outs, as well as turnarounds, restructurings, and asset-based financing” [Financial News, 26 January 2010]
In December 2010, MWB announced it had purchased a 7.9% interest in London-listed African Eagle Resources plc, which is develping the Dutwa nickel project in Tanzania. According to the Mining Journal, "it is believed [the purchase] included shares held by JP Morgan Resources Fund ('see JP Morgan Asset Management) [MJ 10 December 2011].
