Lumina Capital is controlled by Vancouver mining entrepreneur, Ross Beaty; it had the controlling interest in Ventana Gold until October 2009, when this was snatched up by Eike Batista’s 63X Master Fund (qv) [Mineweb, 8 October 2009].
Ross Beaty is a renowned darling of primary silver mining, having founded Pan American Silver and Equinox Resources in the early years of this century. He has also dabbled in "alternative energy" (or more precisely geothermal power) and has a distinct "thing" for copper - specifically Northern Peru Copper and the eponymous Lumina Copper.
In late 2011, Beaty bought more shares in Lumina Copper, increasing his stake to 26.66%, in order to boost the promising Taca Taca copper-gold-molybdenum project in Salta Province, Argentina. In November 2011, Lumina announced that indicated resources at this deposit, were: 6.6 billion pounds of copper;2.1 million ounces of gold; and 204.6 million pounds of molybdenum [Mineweb 6 December 2011]
The management team and board of Lumina Copper include officers from Regalito Copper and Global Copper, both of which were originally spun off from Lumina: Beaty has been a major shareholder in all three copper companies [Mineweb ibid].
Beaty also founded Magma Energy, a geothermal play in Iceland. |This triguggered a vigorous campaign against him by many environmentalists who included the renowned Icelandic singer, Bjork. [http://www.minesandcommunities.org//article.php?a=10648
Lumina Capital also recently bought a stake in CB Gold, which is currently drilling the Vetas Gold deposit in Columbia, and which, CB Gold claims, has a multi-million-ounce gold potential [Mineweb 27 OIctober 2911].
